12th -20th July 2011: Independent University Bangladesh, Dhaka, Bangladesh

Facilitators

  • Saleemul Huq (ICCCAD)

Short Course Summary

This short course was developed specifically for scientists involved in the Climate Change, Agriculture, and Food Security (CCAFS) program under the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) to expose them to community-based adaptation (CBA), with the aim of identifying robust scientific methods and tools for understanding community-led approaches to agricultural adaptation. The real value of this course, beyond CCAFS capacity development, is to build scientific analysis and coverage of CBA in peer-reviewed journals, the IPCC, and national agricultural policies. The key question in each course is: What does each participant need to do differently in order to deal with climate change? Every participant is asked to prepare a work plan to show how they will be able to implement changes to their activities and what may be necessary to bring new information and activities to their respective organizations.  There were participants from Kenya, Ghana, Ethiopia, Senegal, Uganda, Tanzania, two from India, one from France, one from Nepal and three from Bangladesh. The Bangladeshi participants were from BARI (Bangladesh Agriculture Research Institute), BRRI (Bangladesh Rice Research Institute) and BRAC (Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee). They all are specialists in their respective fields.
