SILPI’S STORY Water Water everywhere

International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD), in collaboration with the University of Sussex, conducted in-depth research in Signal Tower Colony, an informal settlement in the coastal zone of Bangladesh. The project “Inclusive Urban Infrastructures” investigated the challenges the residents of the settlement faced in their daily lives in terms of getting access to clean, drinking water. The increasing salinity intrusion in the nearby rivers and pollution in the freshwater ponds cause a lack of access to potable water. Silpi Akhter is a resident of Signal Tower Colony, and this comic portrays the challenges the residents of the settlement are faced with through her own personal story.
