In the dense lanes of Kallyanpur Pora Bosti, a sprawling urban slum in Dhaka, 36 year-old Jamela lives with her husband and three children. The relentless heat of Bangladeshi summer is made worse by the tin shed roofs that traps it inside their single room shelters. Most of her nights go by sleepless.

Onim, a 27 – year old ready-made garment (RMG) worker, like thousands of others in the settlement, lives in a small tin-shed room with his mother. During the summer months, the relentless heatwaves make the place feel like a sun scorched kiln, sealing in the day’s heat.

This case study highlights how Shangu Tex Limited is redefining sustainability in Bangladesh’s ready-made garment (RMG) sector through practicing rainwater harvesting, resource efficiency training, gender-inclusive initiatives and other climate adaptation strategies.
