Learning Hub Event on Disaster management Plan: gender Inclusion and Equity

Project Description :

(SAKTEE)‘Scaling Climate Change Adaptation Knowledge and Technologies for Empowering Women, and to Enhance Social Equity and Disaster Resilience in Bangladesh (SAKTEE)’

It was initiated by Bangladesh Centre for Advanced Studies (BCAS) in collaboration with the International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD), Department of Women Affairs (DWA), Ministry of Women and Children Affairs (MoWCA), Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and The University of Manitoba (UM) funded by ‘International Development Research Centre (IDRC)’. The project aims to support stakeholders and participants to deliver, use and act on the research.

The project aims to build and coordinate institutional integration through enhancing local (Union and Upazila), regional (District) and national level stakeholders ‘awareness and capacity to:

(a) adopt and scale locally appropriate adaptation technologies;

(b) empower women, youth/students, and the poor; and,

(c) strengthen community resilience to climate change and natural disasters.

  • Learning Hub Event (LHE) on Bangladesh Delta Plan 2100: Gender Inclusion and Equity”

This in-person dialogue created an enabling environment and common ground of understanding among policy makers and project partners. The constructive discussion will help developing effective implementation strategies of Bangladesh Delta Plan 2100 at the local level ensuring community participation.

 

  • Learning Hub Event (LHE) on Disaster Management Plan 2021-2025: Gender inclusion and equity”

The report based on the findings from the research was circulated amongst the participants by pointing out at the key discussed elements at the event and take away message.  A policy brief was developed based on the concept of the Disaster Management Plan and the discussion points from the workshop, which were eventually submitted to the Chair, Member, Planning Commission to explore the policy influencing options.

 

Symposium and Diagoue On Empowering Women and Enhancing Social Equity in Bangladesh: 2022

 

Under this project several capacity building and awareness building program were initiated in the last couple of years and the events will be ended with the symposium on Empowering Women and Enhancing Social Equity in Bangladesh. Also, A policy institutional dialogue on adoption of Adaptation technology and reduction of gender and social inequalities including relevant government departments will be held under this symposium.

 

In the first day , Thematic session on SAKTEE from BCAS,  Iniitiations and Implementation from different sectors – a session by government officials,  Challenges of ientification and demonstration of gender responsive adaptation technologies, Women in Locally Led Adaptation by CCDB climate Change Program. And This symposium ended with the Christian Aid’s session on Inclusion of Disadvantaged group.

 

In the second day , SAKTEE study findings  from ICCCAD side was shared , Then ICCCAD’s session on Youth and Women was conducted by ICCCAD youth program , and the sessions ended with the paint social titled Women and Earth.

 

National and International Events and Dissemination

“ Dissemination Event of SAKTEE project finding with LUCCC consortium in Nepal with Pokhara University”. In this event , findings of the project has been shared. The in-person knowledge dissemination created an enabling environment and common ground of understanding among policy makers and project partners of neighbouring countries and well as LUCCC partners. The constructive discussion  helped in developing effective implementation strategies from regional aspects.

The session was initiated by Mr. Praveen Kumar Regmi, Academic Coordinator, SchEMS with a warm welcome to all. He introduced the organizers of the program along with the Chairperson of the event Mr. Ajay B Mathema, Associate Prof., Principal, SchEMS, and the Chief guests- Prof Dr. Deepak Bahadur Bhandari, Registrar of Pokhara University, Special Guest Dr. Kailash Timilsina, Registrar of Gandaki University, Dr. Radha Wagle, Joint Secretary- Ministry of Forests and Environment, Government of Nepal, Prakash Mathema, Former Secretary, GoN Former Chairman, LDC, Sumaiya Binte Selim Project Manager of SAKTEE at International Center for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD) and virtually welcomed Dr. Atiq Rahman, Executive Director, BCAS SAKTEE.

Study findings from SAKTEE as well as the discussion was focused from Nepal and perspective of other LDCs on women empowerment and social equity.
