Second Annual National Conference on Urban Resilience to Climate Change

The three day long Second Annual National Conference on Urban Resilience to Climate Change has already started from 25th November 2017. The International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD), the Asian Cities Climate Change Resilience Network (ACCCRN), Bangladesh Centre for Advanced Studies (BCAS) along with multiple other partners are organizing this national conference from 25 to 27 November 2017 at the Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB), Dhaka. The conference is aimed at sharing research knowledge, identifying knowledge gaps in policies and action plans, and explain ideas and options for multi-stakeholder collaboration. 

In the inaugural session, Dr. John I. Carruthers from George Washington University presented his keynote speech on “Balanced Growth in Bangladesh”. Dr. Saleemul Huq, the Director of ICCCAD mentioned that among different resilience concept, human resilience is the most important in the context of climate change.
In the Plenary session on Mayors Round Table on “The Implication of Population Growth and Urbanization for Climate Change”, mayors from various municipalities shared their good practices at their own working area. In the first parallel session hosted by Bangladesh Centre for Advanced Studies (BCAS), the immediate need for financing in the urban centres have been discussed and capacity building and training of the relevant stakeholders is an key issue. ICCCAD hosted one parallel session where they tried to do some out of the box thinking by making the session more interactive where audience actively participated. in the last plenary session of day one, for a sustainable city, the FSM network discussed about transforming waste into resources.
