Messaging for Inclusion (MFI)

Project Description:

The people with disabilities and older persons are disproportionality vulnerable to natural disasters but efforts to prepare communities to mitigate disasters are often not designed inclusively, including (for example) preparedness communications. To address this gap, a consortium led by Leonard Cheshire including Christian Aid, the International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD) and Kurigram Protibondhi Kallyan Sangstha (KPKS) conducted research on the experiences of persons with disabilities and older people in disaster-prone areas.

Scope of Work

There are two overarching research questions in the Messaging for Inclusion project:

  1. How do people with disabilities and older people in Kurigram District perceive disaster preparedness messaging, and what are the barriers and enablers they perceive in accessing these messages?
  2. How can disaster preparedness messaging be made more inclusive of people with disabilities and older people in Kurigram District and how can message delivery channels be made more effective?
